Noussair Mazraoui has described his first season at Manchester United as a difficult experience, admitting that the challenges have been far greater than he anticipated.
The Moroccan international, who joined the Premier League side from Bayern Munich last summer, opened up about his struggles as the team prepares for the Europa League final.
Mazraoui, 27, moved to Old Trafford in a €15 million deal, with an additional €5 million in potential add-ons, following successful spells at Ajax and Bayern.
Despite his impressive track record in the Eredivisie and Bundesliga, the transition to English football has proven tougher than expected, especially with United enduring a disappointing domestic campaign.
The full-back, known for his attacking runs and solid defensive work, has found it challenging to adapt to a side that has struggled for consistency this season.
United’s position in the lower half of the Premier League table is a stark contrast to the title-chasing environments Mazraoui experienced in Amsterdam and Munich.
“Am I hurting? Of course, I am,” Mazraoui told reporters. “I come from clubs where I’m not used to losing.
“I will never get used to losing wherever I am, as well as here. It’s a painful moment, but life is sometimes painful, and you just have to go through it.”
Despite his struggles, Mazraoui remains a key figure in Erik ten Hag’s squad, providing energy and versatility on the right flank.
United fans will be hoping the Moroccan can find his best form in the Europa League final, as the Red Devils look to end their season on a high and salvage a difficult campaign.
