Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has expressed his frustration over ongoing transfer speculation linking Swedish striker Alexander Isak with a move away from St James’ Park.
Isak, whose family has Eritrean roots, has emerged as a key player for the Magpies this season, helping them to a Carabao Cup triumph and a strong Premier League campaign.
However, reports have surfaced suggesting the 25-year-old could be a target for rivals like Liverpool and Arsenal this summer, despite Newcastle’s recent resurgence.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Friday ahead of their critical clash against Arsenal, Howe addressed the speculation.
“It is a frustration because I don’t see why our players are getting linked here, there and everywhere with other clubs,” Howe said.
“I’d like to think the players are happy here. I’d like to think again that they’re seeing us grow and develop into a team that hopefully can compete at the top end of the division.”
With European football in sight, Newcastle are keen to retain their best talents, and Howe is hopeful that maintaining their momentum could convince Isak to commit his future to the club.
