Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams has expressed confidence ahead of their UEFA Europa League semi-final clash against Manchester United, following a 2-0 victory over Rangers at San Mamés on Thursday.
Williams, who has Ghanaian heritage through his parents, played a pivotal role in the win, scoring a late header to secure the aggregate triumph.
The 22-year-old has been instrumental in Athletic’s European campaign this season, registering five goals and two assists in 12 Europa League appearances.
Reflecting on the upcoming challenge, Williams stated, “It’s a dream to play at Old Trafford, it’s an amazing stadium.
“We have to play a good match at home and then go there for the second leg, and hopefully reach that final.
“United are a great team and they showed that today with their comeback, but we’re going to go there with ambition.”
Williams also highlighted the team’s recent achievements, noting, “I think the team is doing something extraordinary.
“Last year we won the Copa del Rey and this year we’ve made it to the Europa League semi-finals. I hope we can reach that final, the team is doing everything necessary to get to that potential final.
“We’re happy, but we have to keep pushing, and that’s the only goal we have.”
Athletic Bilbao will face Manchester United in the semi-finals, with the first leg scheduled at San Mamés on May 1.
