It was an easy decision to return to Chelsea - Senegal defender Mamadou Sarr

Senegal defender Mamadou Sarr has opened up about his return to Chelsea, describing it as an exciting new chapter in his career.

The 20-year-old centre back rejoined the Premier League club after being recalled from his loan spell at French side Strasbourg.

Sarr initially signed for Chelsea in June and was part of the squad that lifted the Club World Cup, making his debut against ES Tunis before heading back to France in August to gain regular first-team experience.

His time at Strasbourg proved invaluable. Not only did he continue to impress in Ligue 1, but he also celebrated African Cup of Nations glory with Senegal.

Those achievements prompted Chelsea to bring him back to Stamford Bridge on the final day of the winter transfer window.

“I’m very happy to be here,” Sarr explained.

“It was easy to come back because I know the guys, I know all the people, so it was easy. They are great players and it is exciting for me to be here.”

Sarr’s previous experience with Chelsea, including his connections formed during the Club World Cup, has helped him adapt quickly.

He also maintains a strong relationship with coach Liam Rosenior, whom he knows from their time together at Strasbourg.

“I know Liam, he knows me,’ Sarr continued. ‘I know how he trains, I know how he prepares for the game. I know him very well. I think he’s a great coach.

“I think I progressed a lot at Strasbourg because I was the vice-captain, so it was another responsibility there.

“I felt great to be captain there, so that made me grow up from the experience. I prefer to lead by example. I don’t speak too much, I’m a very calm guy.’

Since returning, Sarr has encountered one new challenge: the intensity and competition of English football, which he says is on a completely different level.
