It was an easy decision to join Girona – Morocco midfielder Azzedine Ounahi
Morocco midfielder Azzedine Ounahi says it was an easy decision to join Spanish side Girona.
The 25-year-old made a move from French side Olympique Marseille to the La Liga side earlier this summer.
Speaking to the media during his official unveiling, the midfielder said he joined the Catalan club out of love for football, not for the money.
“Choosing Girona was very easy. Other clubs were interested, but I felt here I’d be among family, in an environment to help me grow and succeed. I didn’t overthink it, the decision was clear,” Ounahi said.
Ounahi said goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, his teammate in the Moroccan national team, convinced him to join.
“Bounou knows the club well and still has a bond with it, and a special relationship with the fans. He advised me to accept Girona without hesitation,” he said.
Ounahi added that Girona’s style of play fits him well.
“Since childhood, I dreamed of playing for a big club. Now I’ll live that experience here. I don’t play for money, but for enjoyment and growth as a professional.”
Ounahi made his debut against Celta Vigo, playing 82 minutes.
“I’m not yet at my best, but I’m working hard and will be ready soon,” he said.
Ounahi will hope to keep his place in the team when they host Levante this weekend.
