It hurts more than I can put into words – Lamine Yamal after biceps femoris muscle injury
FC Barcelona have been dealt a major blow after confirming that teenage sensation Lamine Yamal will miss the rest of the season due to injury.
The Spain international of Moroccan descent picked up a hamstring problem during Wednesday’s 1-0 LaLiga victory over Celta Vigo.
Yamal appeared to pull up after converting a 40th-minute penalty before being assessed by the club’s medical staff.
In an official statement, Barcelona revealed the extent of the setback:
“The tests carried out have confirmed that first-team player Lamine Yamal has a hamstring injury in his left leg (biceps femoris muscle). The player will follow a conservative treatment plan. Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of the season, and he is expected to be available for the World Cup.”
The 17-year-old will now sit out Barcelona’s remaining six league fixtures, although the Catalan giants remain in a strong position at the top of LaLiga, holding a nine-point advantage.
Despite his absence, Yamal has been one of the standout performers in Spain this season, leading the league with 11 assists.
Reacting on social media, the youngster expressed his frustration but remained optimistic about his recovery.
“It hurts not to be able to fight alongside my teammates, not to be able to help when the team needs me. But I believe in them and I know they’ll give their all in every match.
“I’ll be there, even if it’s from the sidelines, supporting, cheering and pushing them on just like one of the boys.
“This isn’t the end, it’s just a break. I’ll come back stronger, more eager than ever, and next season will be better.
“Thanks for the messages and Visca el Barca.”
