Eindhoven’s rising star, Ismael Saibari (22 years old), expressed his eager anticipation for the announcement of the Moroccan national team’s roster, set to compete in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast from January 13th to February 11th.
The talented player, who has garnered attention this season in the Dutch league and UEFA Champions League, revealed the collective excitement among Moroccan professionals in Europe awaiting the surprises Coach Walid Regragui will unveil regarding the final squad representing Morocco in the AFCON.
Speaking to “Al-Araby Al-Jadeed” on Tuesday, Saibari said, “I eagerly await Coach Walid Regragui’s announcement of the final squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Like many Moroccan players, everyone aspires to see their name on the list representing their country in the continent’s premier football event.”
Saibari emphasized that despite the initial squad announcement, all eyes are on the final list.
He mentioned that those included in it would be fortunate, considering the critical timing of AFCON.
With Morocco hosting the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, a stellar performance in Ivory Coast is imperative for the national team.
Saibari remarked, “We must shine outside our country to dispel the notion that we only compete strongly for the continental title when hosting.
Winning in Ivory Coast would be particularly sweet, much like the impressive showing of the Moroccan team in the Qatar World Cup.”
Regarding his primary goal in the AFCON, Saibari stated, “Initially, I want to secure a place in the final squad, as I mentioned.
My ambition is to win the continental title or at least reach the final match.
I recently won the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations in Morocco, securing qualification for the Paris Olympics.
I experienced great joy with my teammates.
So, I hope, God willing, that history will repeat itself if I make it into Coach Regragui’s squad.
Anyone included in it will be fortunate, especially given the current abundance of Moroccan players performing at high levels in European leagues.”
