Ismael Gharbi seals loan move to CD Leganes from Sporting Braga

Ismael Gharbi has joined CD Leganes on loan as the Tunisia international looks to revive his club career in Spain’s second tier.

Leganes, who play in LaLiga 2, announced the deal via a post on their official X account, confirming an agreement with Sporting Braga for a loan move that includes an option to buy the attacking midfielder.

The Spanish club described Gharbi as a “talented” player and highlighted that the 20-year-old arrives after featuring at the 2026 World Cup.

Gharbi, who represents Tunisia at international level and is of Spanish origin, will now attempt to gain regular first-team football with Leganes after a difficult recent spell in Germany.

The former Paris Saint-Germain prospect spent the second half of last season on loan at Augsburg, but struggled for game time and made only six appearances for the Bundesliga side.

From PSG graduate to loan spells

Gharbi first came to prominence at Paris Saint-Germain, coming through the French club’s academy and breaking into the first team setup before moving on in search of more opportunities.

Since 2024 he has been under contract with Sporting Braga, but his career has largely been marked by loan moves rather than a sustained run in one team.

His switch to Leganes continues that pattern, offering him another chance to establish himself at club level in a competitive European league.

World Cup experience with Tunisia

Despite limited minutes at club level, Gharbi has already earned the trust of Tunisia at international level.

He was part of the Carthage Eagles squad at the 2026 World Cup and played in all three of their group-stage matches, facing Sweden, Japan and the Netherlands.

That exposure on the global stage, combined with his background at PSG and Braga, underlines the level of potential Leganes are hoping to unlock during his stay in Spain.

CD Leganes will now look to integrate Gharbi into their squad as they prepare for the new LaLiga 2 campaign, while the player aims to turn his World Cup experience into consistent performances at club level.
