Iron Gomis: Franco-Senegalese midfielder joins Troyes on free transfer
France and Senegal midfielder Iron Gomis has joined Troyes on a free transfer after leaving Zira FC earlier this summer. The 26-year-old central midfielder has signed a contract with the Ligue 1 club until 30 June 2028.
Gomis, who was born in Marseille and stands at 1.82m, arrives in Troyes as a free agent following the end of his spell in Azerbaijan, where he most recently played for Premyer Liqa side Zira. His move restores him to French football after stints in Italy, Turkey and Azerbaijan over the past few seasons.
A right-footed central midfielder, Gomis has built up significant experience across several leagues, including Ligue 2, Serie A, the Turkish Super Lig and European competition qualifiers. He has made close to 100 appearances in Ligue 2 alone, adding goals and assists from midfield and surpassing 6,000 minutes played in the division.
Gomis first established himself in France with Amiens, progressing from their youth and reserve sides before breaking into senior football and later taking in a loan at USL Dunkerque. He moved abroad in 2023, joining Turkish side Kasimpasa, and went on to feature in Italy’s top flight with Salernitana on loan before switching to Zira in 2024.
Now valued at around €1.4 million, the midfielder links up with Troyes as they strengthen their squad for the new campaign, with his deal in place through the 2027-28 season.
