English Championship outfit Ipswich Town are pushing to secure the signing of Dutch-born midfielder of Angolan descent, Azor Matusiwa.
According to reports, the relegated Premier League outfit is in advanced talks to secure the services of the defensive midfielder from French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais FC.
Matusiwa, a defensive midfielder known for his tenacity and ball-winning abilities, joined Rennes from Stade de Reims 18 months ago in a €15 million deal.
However, the 27-year-old has struggled to hit the heights that initially earned him the move, and with Rennes undergoing a squad overhaul under new Sporting Director Loïc Désiré, his time at the club appears to be drawing to a close.
Although under contract until 2028, Matusiwa has reportedly been given no assurances over his role in the team by new head coach Habib Beye.
Following Rennes’ 1-1 preseason draw with Stade Briochin, Beye confirmed the midfielder’s impending exit, stating that Matusiwa is “on his way out.”
The defender is understood to be excited about the prospect of playing in England and looks forward to completing the move in the coming days.
