Inter Milan show interest in Cagliari’s rising Moroccan defender Riyad Idrissi

Inter Milan are reportedly monitoring Cagliari’s promising Moroccan left-back, Riyad Idrissi, as the Serie A giants look to strengthen their defensive options.

According to information, Inter have identified the 20-year-old as a potential long-term target following his impressive breakthrough with Cagliari this season.

Idrissi’s rapid rise has not gone unnoticed in Italy, with his maturity and consistency at the back drawing praise from analysts and scouts alike.

Cagliari acted swiftly to secure their young talent earlier this year, offering Idrissi a lucrative new deal that extends his stay with the Sardinian club until 2030.

The contract renewal, completed in August 2025, significantly improved his financial terms and reflected Cagliari’s determination to fend off growing interest from Europe’s elite clubs.

Idrissi made his Serie A debut in the final week of August 2025, a defining moment in his career after returning from a highly successful loan spell at Modena in Serie B.

During his time there, he made 28 appearances and delivered a series of assured performances that showcased his defensive solidity, composure on the ball, and attacking intent from the left flank.

His development at Modena convinced Cagliari’s coaching staff to integrate him into the first-team setup, a decision that has already paid off.

Idrissi has since established himself as one of the most promising young defenders in Italian football, combining discipline and intelligence in defence with an ability to contribute to attacking phases.

The Moroccan’s steady progress could also pave the way for an international breakthrough.

National team coach Walid Regragui is reportedly keeping tabs on Idrissi’s performances, with a potential call-up to the Atlas Lions on the horizon should he maintain his current form.

Inter’s growing interest, however, could test Cagliari’s resolve.

The Nerazzurri are believed to view Idrissi as a key target for future transfer windows as they continue to build a younger, more dynamic squad under Simone Inzaghi.

Yet with Idrissi tied down to a long-term contract, Cagliari are under no immediate pressure to sell and are expected to demand a substantial fee for their prized asset.

For now, Idrissi remains focused on his development in Sardinia, where his assured displays continue to underline his reputation as one of Morocco’s brightest young prospects in European football.
