Al Ahli’s Franck Kessié cleared for return after injury scare

Inter Milan have welcomed an approach from the representatives of Al-Ahli midfielder Franck Kessie, signaling a potential blockbuster return to San Siro for the Ivorian international.

The former AC Milan standout is reportedly determined to return to Serie A after a three-year stint in Saudi Arabia and has tasked his agents with securing a move back to Italy’s top flight this summer.

The timing of the approach aligns perfectly with Inter’s long-term recruitment strategy. Kessié’s current contract with Al-Ahli is set to expire in June 2026, and having recently rejected a renewal offer, he is expected to be available as a free agent.

This contractual situation has placed Inter’s sporting director, Piero Ausilio, on high alert. Ausilio is a known admirer of the midfielder’s physical presence and tactical intelligence, viewing the lack of a transfer fee as a vital financial opportunity for the Nerazzurri.

However, the path to a deal remains complex. Kessié is reportedly seeking a salary in the region of €5 million per season, a figure that requires careful balancing within Inter’s wage structure.

Furthermore, Inter faces stiff competition from domestic rivals. Juventus is already in active negotiations with the player’s camp, with reports suggesting the Bianconeri have prepared a three-year contract offer.

Other Italian clubs, including AS Roma and Fiorentina, are also monitoring the situation closely as the race for his signature intensifies.

While Kessié remains a priority, Inter is maintaining a broad shortlist to ensure midfield depth. The club is simultaneously tracking Roma’s Manu Koné and Chelsea’s Andrey Santos as younger alternatives should the Kessié deal falter.

Nevertheless, the prospect of landing a proven Scudetto winner – who famously captained rivals AC Milan to the title in 2022 – is an enticing one for the Inter board.
