Inter decide to keep Swiss-Nigerian star Manuel Akanji after impressive start to loan spell
Inter Milan have reportedly decided to make the loan signing of Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji permanent following his strong performances early in the season.
The Swiss international joined the Serie A side on a one-year loan deal during the final days of the summer transfer window, with an option to buy for €15 million.
Born in Switzerland to a Nigerian father, Akanji has quickly established himself as a key figure in Simone Inzaghi’s defensive setup, earning praise for his composure and tactical intelligence.
His consistent form has already convinced Inter’s management to trigger the purchase clause long before the end of the campaign.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport, the deal includes a conditional clause making the transfer obligatory should Akanji feature in 50 percent of Inter’s matches this season.
However, club officials are reportedly prepared to complete the transfer regardless of that threshold, viewing him as an ideal long-term addition to their defensive core.
The decision marks a personal victory for Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio, who had previously attempted to sign Akanji for €10 million from Borussia Dortmund before Manchester City intervened to secure his services in 2022.
With Inter competing across multiple fronts this season, Akanji’s experience and versatility have already proven valuable, reinforcing the club’s belief that his permanent stay will strengthen their defensive stability for years to come.
