Egyptian football sensation, Hussein El Shahat, who plays for Al Ahly, has faced an unfortunate setback due to an injury sustained during the final match of the Club Champions Super Cup.
This injury has regrettably ruled him out of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations 2023, dealing a blow to Egypt’s aspirations in the tournament.
According to information gathered by FilGoal.com, El Shahat’s injury diagnosis reveals a strained calf muscle.
This has necessitated a dedicated treatment program, expected to span a week, aiming to facilitate his recovery.
Following the injury, El Shahat did not return to Cairo with Al Ahly’s delegation; instead, he remained in the United Arab Emirates.
Meanwhile, other players embarked on various destinations, leveraging the break period either to join the Egyptian national team or to utilize the league’s suspension period.
Roy Vitoria, the head coach of the Egyptian national team, explained the exclusion of Hussein El Shahat from the final squad for the Africa Cup of Nations, citing the ongoing medical examination and X-rays to determine the extent of the injury.
Responding to inquiries at a press conference held on Saturday, Vitoria stated, “Hussein El Shahat is still undergoing medical evaluation, and X-rays will be conducted to assess the severity of his injury.”
He continued, “However, I felt that time was not available for waiting, and this is the reason for his exclusion.
In his position, there are other talented players, and I did not want to delay the team selections.”
As the Egyptian national team begins its preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations camp on January 2, a friendly match against Tanzania is scheduled for January 7.
The squad will then depart 48 hours later for Ivory Coast to participate in the highly anticipated tournament.
