Olympique Lyon forward Rayan Cherki is reportedly set to receive his first call-up to the France senior national team.
The talented 21-year-old was born in France to Algerian parents and has played for the French youth national teams in the past.
Although Cherki is eligible to play for the Algerian national team, according to a source, he will opt to represent France at the senior national team level.
The head coach of France, Didier Deschamps, is scheduled to name his squad for next month’s games in the Nations League semi-final clash against Spain on Wednesday, May 21.
Several key members of the France squad are set to miss out on the call-up. The likes of Lucas Hernandez, Warren Zaïre-Emery, Désiré Doué, Bradley Barcola, Ousmane Dembélé, Benjamin Pavard and Marcus Thuram [all players of PSG and Inter Milan] will likely not be named in the squad ahead of the UEFA Champions League.
In the absence of these players, Didier Deschamps is expected to give chances to Rayan Cherki and some other players who are yet to debut for the France senior national team.
