Imam Ashour to remain at Al Ahly until 2030 amid transfer interest

Al Ahly have confirmed that Imam Ashour will stay with the club until 2030, ending speculation about the midfielder’s future after reported interest from Turkish and Saudi Arabian sides.

The Egyptian champions announced the contract extension in the early hours of Wednesday, following weeks of uncertainty over whether Ashour would leave during the current summer transfer window. Much of the discussion had centred on his position after the 2026 World Cup.

Ashour’s existing situation had attracted attention from clubs in Turkey and Saudi Arabia, prompting reports that he could move away from Al Ahly. However, the Cairo club has now formally settled the matter by extending his agreement and committing him to the team for the next four years.

In a statement, Al Ahly said: “Imam Ashour, the first-team football player, has extended his contract with the club until 2030. This came during a meeting with Dr Essam Serag El-Din, head of the contracts sector, who completed all the administrative and financial procedures in full co-ordination with captain Wael Gomaa, football director.”

The club added: “During the meeting, the player affirmed his full gratitude to Al Ahly and its large fan base and his desire to continue his career with the club in the coming years.”

The announcement confirms that Ashour will remain part of Al Ahly’s plans despite the interest that had been reported from abroad. It also provides clarity over his position as the club begins its Egyptian Premier League campaign.

Al Ahly are preparing for their second league match of the season, against ZED on Friday. Ashour was absent from their opening fixture, when the team secured a 3-2 victory over Eastern Company Enppi.

The club also published a brief message on social media alongside a graphic featuring the player, reading: “Imam Ashour extends his contract with the club until 2030.”

Ashour’s renewal was announced as Al Ahly continued preparations for Friday’s match, with the club having already made a winning start to its league schedule. His absence from the opening game had added to the questions surrounding his availability and longer-term future, but the new agreement confirms that he remains tied to the red-and-white side.

Al Ahly’s statement made clear that the contract process has been completed on both administrative and financial terms. The club said the agreement was finalised by its contracts department in co-ordination with football director Wael Gomaa, while Ashour publicly expressed his appreciation for the club and its supporters.

The decision brings an official conclusion to the recent debate over whether the midfielder could depart Al Ahly during the summer. Instead, he is now contracted to continue with the club until 2030.
