Senegalese striker Nicolas Jackson is my ideal number nine, says Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has expressed his satisfaction after scoring twice in a commanding 4-1 victory over Djurgarden in the first leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League semifinal on Thursday night.

The Senegalese forward, introduced as a second-half substitute, capitalized on defensive lapses to net two goals in quick succession, solidifying Chelsea’s lead and placing them in a strong position ahead of the return leg at Stamford Bridge.

“I’m very happy we won and now we are a step closer to the final,” Jackson said post-match.

“I’m very confident and especially pleased with my second goal, but the most important thing is that we won. A very good performance; we attacked very well and now we are looking forward to the next one.”

Chelsea’s early dominance was evident as Jadon Sancho’s deflected shot opened the scoring in the 12th minute, followed by Noni Madueke’s precise finish just before halftime.

Manager Enzo Maresca’s strategic substitutions, including Jackson, injected fresh energy into the squad, leading to two more goals in the second half.

Djurgarden managed a consolation goal through Isak Alemayehu Mulugeta, but the Swedish side faces a daunting task in the second leg.

With this victory, Chelsea remains on course to potentially face either Real Betis or Fiorentina in the final, as they aim to add the UEFA Europa Conference League title to their collection of European honours.
