Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure has confirmed his departure from the club at the end of the 2024/25 season, bringing to a close a five-year spell at Goodison Park.
The 32-year-old Mali international made the announcement via an emotional message on Instagram, revealing that his contract, which expires on June 30, will not be extended.
Everton had the option to trigger a one-year extension but opted against it, prompting Doucoure to begin seeking opportunities elsewhere.
“After five wonderful years, my time at Everton has come to an end,” Doucoure shared in his farewell message. “Obviously, I’m sad to leave the club… but I think the time has come for a new chapter.”
Doucoure joined Everton from Watford in 2020 and quickly became a fixture in midfield, known for his work ethic, physicality, and goal-scoring from deep positions.
Among his most memorable contributions was the crucial goal against Bournemouth in 2023 that secured Everton’s Premier League survival — a moment he described as his proudest in blue.
“My best memory will obviously be the goal I scored against Bournemouth to keep the club in the Premier League. I think this is something I’ll always be proud of,” he said.
The outgoing midfielder expressed deep appreciation for the fans and the club, noting, “I gave everything to win as many games as I could. I will just miss the place and I wish them all the best in the new stadium.”
Doucoure is expected to continue his playing career, with reports suggesting a potential move to Leeds United, who are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of a Premier League return.
While his destination remains uncertain, the veteran has made it clear that retirement is not yet on the cards.
