Idrissa Gana Gueye has reportedly reached an agreement to extend his stay at Everton, securing his future at the Merseyside club until June 2026.
The Senegalese midfielder, who first joined Everton in 2016 before departing for Paris Saint-Germain in 2019, returned to Goodison Park in the summer of 2022.
Since rejoining, he has established himself as a key figure in the squad, making 29 appearances across all competitions this season and providing two assists.
Everton retain experienced midfielder
With just six months remaining on his current contract, Gueye had attracted interest from several clubs in Saudi Arabia.
However, Everton have moved swiftly to retain the 35-year-old, recognizing his experience and leadership as crucial assets for the team.
According to Africafoot, the deal has been finalized, and the midfielder is set to sign a new contract that will keep him at the club for an additional year.
Future decision in Gueye’s hands
Despite speculation about potential offers from abroad, Gueye appears committed to continuing his Premier League career.
His former agent, Bassirou Sakho, recently stated: “Gana Gueye will be the sole master to decide whether he wants a sporting or financial challenge.”
Everton manager David Moyes has shown confidence in the midfielder, valuing his consistency and defensive capabilities in the heart of the team.
Currently, Gueye is valued at €2 million, according to Transfermarkt.
Everton focused on Premier League survival
Everton are preparing for their upcoming Premier League fixture against Wolverhampton, a crucial match as they look to maintain their position in the league standings.
Gueye’s experience will be vital as the Toffees aim to finish the season strongly.
With his future now seemingly settled, the Senegalese international will focus on helping Everton navigate the remainder of the campaign while continuing to be a key presence in midfield.
