‘I’d love to play against Inaki’ – Nico Williams dreams of Ghana vs Spain 2026 World Cup clash
Athletic Club winger Nico Williams has revealed his ultimate dream for the 2026 FIFA World Cup: a historic on-field showdown against his older brother, Iñaki Williams.
While both brothers are stars for the same La Liga club, they represent different nations, with Nico playing for Spain and Iñaki for Ghana.
The prospect of facing his brother is a major personal milestone for Nico, who has 30 caps for Spain, marking a unique chapter in their family history.
He shared his hopes with FourFourTwo, stating, “I don’t know if we’ll be able to meet at some point, but I would like to play against my brother – him for Ghana and me for Spain… I think my parents would have a heart attack because they wouldn’t know who to go with!”
The 2026 World Cup draw puts the brothers in separate groups, meaning a potential face-off could only happen in the knockout rounds.
Spain is placed in Group H with Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, and Cape Verde, while Ghana is in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.
Nico expressed confidence in Spain’s prospects but acknowledged Iñaki’s talent, “I hope I can play against him and win, although he’s going to score five goals if we do meet each other.”
He added, “My brother knows all about the team we have – Ghana are also a good team. I hope we can cross paths – if we do, we’ll win, for sure!”
