Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté is reportedly seeking a massive salary increase in contract renewal discussions with the club.
The 25-year-old French international, whose current contract expires in 2026, is understood to be earning £80,000 per week.
According to The Athletic, his representatives have informed Liverpool of his desire for a substantial raise to £200,000 per week.
Born in Paris to parents of Malian descent, Konaté’s African heritage adds depth to his personal and professional identity.
The defender’s strong performances have attracted interest from prominent European clubs.
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Real Madrid are reportedly monitoring his situation, with PSG’s interest possibly linked to his French roots.
In January, Konaté confirmed that Liverpool had offered him a new contract, replying affirmatively when asked about the offer.
However, he remained non-committal about signing, stating, “Am I close to signing it? That’s another conversation.”
Liverpool is keen to secure Konaté’s long-term commitment, aiming to avoid scenarios similar to those with other key players whose contracts are nearing expiration.
The club’s management, including sporting director Richard Hughes, is reportedly working diligently to finalize a new deal with the defender.
