Ibrahim Sulemana joins Sassuolo as Ghana midfielder begins fresh Serie A loan

Ghana midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana has joined Sassuolo from Atalanta on loan, completing a move that will keep the 23-year-old in Serie A until 30 June 2027.

Sulemana, a defensive midfielder from Sunyani, moves to Sassuolo after returning to Atalanta from a spell with Cagliari. The transfer was completed on 1 September 2026, with the player’s temporary switch to the newly joined club scheduled to run for the 2026-27 season.

The right-footed midfielder has signed for Sassuolo after spending the previous campaign between Atalanta and two loan clubs. He joined Cagliari on 21 January 2026 and returned to Atalanta at the end of that season before moving on again.

Earlier in the 2025-26 campaign, Sulemana spent time at Bologna on loan. That agreement ended on 20 January 2026, allowing him to return to Atalanta before his subsequent move to Cagliari.

Sulemana joined Atalanta from Cagliari on 17 July 2024 in a €7.4m transfer. He had initially moved to Cagliari from Hellas Verona in July 2023 for €4m, following his progression from Verona’s under-19 side.

The Ghanaian began his development in Atalanta’s youth system, joining the club’s under-18 team from the under-17s in 2020. He moved to Verona’s under-19 side in 2021 before establishing himself in senior football in Italy.

At 1.80m, Sulemana is listed primarily as a defensive midfielder and joins a Sassuolo side competing in Serie A and the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Conference League. His arrival gives the club a player with experience across several Italian teams, while his previous registration remains with Atalanta.

Sulemana’s contract details with Sassuolo run through 30 June 2027, when the loan is due to end and he is scheduled to return to Atalanta. He joins the club with a listed market value of €6m.

The move marks another temporary spell for Sulemana in Italy’s top flight after loans with Bologna and Cagliari during the 2025-26 season. The Ghanaian midfielder is now a Sassuolo player on loan from Atalanta until the end of June 2027.
