Ibrahim Salah, former Zamalek star, expressed that the decision to dismiss Portuguese coach Rui Vitoria from coaching the Egyptian national team is the right move considering his failure to produce satisfactory results for the Pharaohs, especially in what should have been a relatively straightforward tournament.
During an interview with Hani Hathout on the “El Match” program on Sada El Balad channel, Salah emphasized that Vitoria’s dismissal is a necessary step to pacify public opinion and is beneficial for Egyptian football as a whole.
He highlighted that the AFCON tournament was well within reach, given the caliber of teams Egypt faced.
Salah pointed out that all the teams Egypt encountered in the tournament were beatable, and any eleven players from the Egyptian league could have secured victories against these opponents.
It was, in his view, illogical to draw against Mozambique and advance by chance, relying on Ghana and Mozambique’s draw.
In conclusion, he noted that the events surrounding Egypt’s participation in the Africa Cup of Nations played a significant role in the poor results, citing the rumors of Mohamed Abu Gabal signing with Al Ahly and the injuries to Mohamed Salah and Mohamed El Shenawy as notable contributing factors.
