Ibrahim Maza celebrates during Leverkusen’s comeback win

Algerian midfielder Ibrahim Maza delivered a decisive performance as Bayer Leverkusen fought back from behind to secure a remarkable 6-3 victory over Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.

The encounter, which featured an all-Algerian duel between Maza and Mohamed Amoura, unfolded into a dramatic contest filled with momentum swings.

Both players started the match, but it was Maza who ultimately made the greater impact in a game that saw Leverkusen overturn a difficult first-half deficit.

Leverkusen endured a challenging opening period, conceding three times as Wolfsburg capitalised on their attacking efficiency.

The home side found themselves trailing 3-1, struggling to cope with the visitors’ sharpness in front of goal.

Although they managed to reduce the deficit just before the interval, there remained a sense that the game was slipping away from them.

However, the second half brought a complete transformation. Leverkusen returned with renewed energy and intensity, pushing forward with greater purpose. Their efforts paid off early in the half as they drew level in the 53rd minute, setting the stage for a dramatic turnaround.

The momentum continued to swing in Leverkusen’s favour, and by the 68th minute, they had taken the lead for the first time in the match, making it 4-3. The turning point had arrived, and Wolfsburg struggled to regain control.

Maza then delivered the moment that effectively settled the contest. In the 73rd minute, the Algerian international calmly finished a well-worked team move to score his side’s fifth goal, putting clear daylight between the two teams.

His contribution proved vital in sealing the outcome of a match that had once appeared to be slipping away.

Beyond his goal, Maza was influential throughout the game. He won a penalty in the first half and consistently posed a threat in attacking areas, emerging as one of the standout performers on the pitch.

In contrast, Amoura experienced a more subdued outing. While he did win a penalty, the forward was unable to impose himself on the game in the same way as his compatriot.

The emphatic result strengthens Leverkusen’s push for European qualification places, while Maza continues to underline his growing reputation as one of the league’s emerging talents.
