Ibrahim Adel features as FC Nordsjælland and FC Midtjylland share four-goal thriller

Ibrahim Adel started for FC Nordsjælland in their 2-2 draw away to FC Midtjylland on Monday, although the Egypt international was substituted before the match burst into life.

The game was played at the seventh-round stage of the Danish Superliga, with FC Nordsjælland travelling to face FC Midtjylland.

Adel was named in the visitors’ starting line-up but was replaced in the 59th minute, with the score still 0-0. All four goals came after the former Pyramids winger had left the field.

FC Nordsjælland broke the deadlock four minutes after Adel’s departure when Mark Brink put the visitors ahead in the 63rd minute.

FC Midtjylland responded nine minutes later through Fryday Etim, who brought the hosts level in the 72nd minute.

The match quickly swung back in FC Nordsjælland’s favour. Hatle Rasmussen restored their lead just two minutes after Etim’s equaliser, giving the visitors a 2-1 advantage.

FC Midtjylland rescued a point late on when Martin Erlic scored with four minutes remaining. The equaliser ensured the two sides shared the points after a decisive spell in the final half-hour.

The appearance extended a run of four consecutive matches in which Adel has not registered a goal or an assist for FC Nordsjælland.

The Egypt international has scored once and provided three assists in 11 appearances for the Danish club this season. His latest outing ended before either side had found the net, but the contest developed into an open and eventful finish after his substitution.

The draw left FC Nordsjælland on 14 points, keeping them third in the Danish Superliga standings.

FC Midtjylland moved to 15 points and remain second. They sit behind FC Copenhagen, who lead the competition with 18 points.

The result therefore maintained the narrow gap between the teams near the top of the table, with FC Midtjylland one point above FC Nordsjælland and three points behind leaders FC Copenhagen. Both sides had to settle for a point despite each taking the lead during a four-goal second half.
