Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has publicly expressed his admiration for Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, acknowledging the winger’s exceptional talent but conceding that coaching him is unlikely.
Yamal, who boasts Equatorial Guinean and Moroccan heritage, has enjoyed a standout season with Barcelona, contributing 18 goals and 25 assists in 55 games across all competitions.
Guardiola lauded Yamal’s abilities and potential. He emphasized that the young forward is in the ideal environment to develop his skills and build a remarkable career.
Guardiola also highlighted Yamal’s nomination for the Ballon d’Or at such a young age as a testament to his extraordinary talent.
Despite his admiration, Guardiola acknowledged that the prospect of coaching Yamal is improbable, given the player’s commitment to Barcelona and the club’s plans for his future.
“I would like to coach him… but it won’t happen,” said the Manchester City manager, who previously coached Barcelona.
He’ll be surrounded by the right people. Messi was not affected at all by this. Clubs aren’t stupid — if they pay him, it’s because he’s worth it.
“I’m happy for him and for Barça. I’m surprised City isn’t interested in him…” he joked.
