Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe has opened up about Zinedine Zidane’s potential appointment as head coach of the France after Didier Dechamps.
Deschamps will leave his role as France manager in 2026 at the end of the FIFA World Cup, to be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
Zidane, who has always had his eyes on the national team job, is the current favourite to succeed Deschamps.
In an interview with Le Parisien, Mbappe, who has Cameroonian root disclosed he would be happy to see Zidan appointed next France manager.
“It isn’t me who decides (who succeeds Deschamps). I am trying not to talk about it too much. It isn’t my job and there is already a manager there. You have to have respect for the people that are already in place,” he began”
Mbappe added, “I no longer have to prove my love for Zidane but I think you have to respect the people that are here (Deschamps). If Zidane arrives, it would be a great pleasure. I would be extremely happy but it isn’t my decision.”
Mbappe was on the stage with Zinedine Zidane during his unveiling at the Bernabéu in the summer.
Zidane has not been in management since leaving the club in 2021. However, there are intense rumours that a return could be made in 2026.
