Wydad Casablanca coach Rulani Mokwena defended his tactics despite the intense scrutiny.
The South African gaffer has come under massive pressure due to his side’s dwindling performances. Their poor performance led to a crisis meeting last week as revealed by AfricaSoccer.com.
However, Wydad were held to a 1-1 against Ittihad Tangier on Saturday in the Moroccan topflight at the Stade du village sportif de Tanger.
Speaking after the game, the former Mamelodi Sundowns gaffer defended his tactics and insisted he will not change it.
“I learned this philosophy years ago, and I won’t change it,” the South African coach said emotionally, according to Al-Riyadhiya TV.
“I’m not prepared to replace what I’ve learned, because the team’s results aren’t due to the plan or the philosophy failing. We score goals frequently, but we don’t score often, so the problem isn’t with the workflow.
“I repeat that I will not change my approach just because some people demand it, even if it means leaving my position.”
“If I am convinced that the plan is the cause, or that I am responsible for the current situation, I will immediately return to my country. I love this club, and I am trying to help it as much as I can. We are going through a difficult period, and we must all fix the situation.”
“Wydad will compete for second place until the last round, and we have to fight to achieve it,” he added.
Wydad sit 3rd on the league log with 43 points after 25 matches played. Meanwhile, RS Berkane has been declared champions of the Moroccan topflight with five matches to end the season with 60 points.
