The President of the Confederation of African Football, CAF, Patrice Motsepe, has reinforced his anti-corruption message during a high-level working visit to North Africa, as controversy over the 2025 continental final continues to unfold.

Motsepe arrived in Morocco for discussions with football authorities, following a prior stop in Senegal.

His visits come in the wake of heightened diplomatic and sporting tension between the two nations after the disputed outcome of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Final.

The dispute stems from a ruling by CAF’s disciplinary structures, which awarded the title to Morocco after Senegal were deemed to have forfeited the final following their walk-off in protest against a penalty decision.

Senegal have since escalated the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Speaking during a press briefing in Morocco, Motsepe defended the integrity of the tournament while praising the host nation’s organisation.

“Despite the challenges in the final, the 2025 AFCON was the most successful tournament. The security, logistics, airports, hotels, football pitches and hospitals were all top-notch.”

He also commended key Moroccan football leadership, including Fouzi Lekjaa, and the country’s broader support for the competition.

“I want to personally thank the Morocco FA President, Fouzi Lekjaa, for his outstanding work as both FA President and CAF 1st Vice President. I also extend my gratitude to His Majesty the King of Morocco and to the people of this great country,” Motsepe added.

Reiterating his position on governance within African football, he delivered a firm warning on misconduct: “I will never tolerate corruption from anyone, anywhere.”
