Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala has outlined his target to return to action ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup, following a hamstring injury sustained during the club’s 3-1 Bundesliga victory over FC Augsburg.
The 22-year-old, who has been sidelined since the match, has missed crucial fixtures, including encounters against Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan.
In an interview with German publication Sport Bild, Musiala expressed his determination to rejoin the squad in time for the tournament, which is scheduled to commence in June.
Musiala was born in Stuttgart to a Nigerian father and a German mother.
Reflecting on Bayern’s recent Champions League exit to Inter Milan, Musiala conveyed his frustration at being unable to contribute on the pitch.
“It really hurt to watch the (Champions League exit to Inter) on TV without being able to do anything. I suffered with the boys, I think we put up a great fight despite the (defeat) and deserved more.
“I have a big goal: the Club World Cup. It’s all about prestige, income for the club and a new major title. And we want to win it! I want to be back on the pitch in the USA.”
Under the guidance of manager Vincent Kompany, Musiala has been instrumental this season, recording 18 goals and five assists in 40 appearances.
His anticipated return is expected to bolster Bayern’s campaign in Group C of the Club World Cup, where they are set to face teams such as Boca Juniors, Auckland City, and Benfica.
