Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga has admitted that his future beyond this summer remains uncertain, following the conclusion of a season-long loan spell at La Liga side Sevilla.
Born in Belgium to Congolese parents, Lokonga has long been regarded as a technically gifted central midfielder.
His time in Spain fulfilled a long-standing dream of playing in La Liga, but the 25-year-old now finds himself at a career crossroads as he returns to North London.
Despite Arsenal recently activating a one-year extension in his contract to keep him tied to the club until the summer of 2026, Lokonga remains unsure of his next destination.
His agent has already held initial talks with Arsenal’s newly appointed sporting director, Andrea Berta, but no concrete decision has been made about whether he will stay or leave the Emirates.
“So the situation is really, really open,” Lokonga told Standard Sport. “To talk about my future… I can’t say anything, because I really don’t know where I will end up.”
The midfielder, who joined Arsenal from Anderlecht in 2021, expressed a desire for long-term stability, something that has eluded him following successive loan stints at Crystal Palace, Luton Town, and most recently, Sevilla.
“I can’t say it’s tough, because I still have one year on my contract, but it is true that as a player you want to know where you will end up or where you will stay,” he said.
“For me, I really don’t know what is going to happen — but what I know for sure is I need stability. I need a club where I can stay for two or three years, to play and develop again.”
