Timothy Fosu‑Mensah, now a free agent and former Manchester United fullback, has offered heartfelt support for Marcus Rashford, expressing his hope that his former teammate rediscovers joy both on and off the pitch.
“I just want him to be happy. Everybody just wants him to be happy,” Fosu‑Mensah said, underscoring that Rashford’s emotional well-being is more important than form or speculation.
Born in Amsterdam to Ghanaian parents, Fosu‑Mensah embodies a blend of Dutch discipline and Ghanaian resilience.
Fosu‑Mensah joined Manchester United at the age of 16 and spent seven years at Old Trafford before moving on.
He remains deeply connected to the club and described himself as a lifelong fan.
Reflecting on the team’s recent struggles, he noted, “Even this last season the Premier League was difficult for them but they reached the Europa League final, so it’s something in the DNA of the club that they always want to win trophies.”
Now 27, Fosu‑Mensah is currently unattached but hopeful about finding the right club.
“Last season was the first time I’ve spent without a team… I’ve been working hard and hard work won’t go unnoticed,” he stated, acknowledging the challenges of free agency and missteps with agents.
He also expressed confidence in Manchester United’s new manager Ruben Amorim, whose style and ambition he has studied closely.
“I have analysed the manager and I have seen a little bit how he plays and what he wants from his players… so I’m positive that United brought in a good manager.”
But above all, his thoughts returned to Rashford. “The most important thing is for him to feel good, for him to feel happy. Look, the quality is definitely there… he’s a top player.”
