Achraf Hakimi, Morocco’s talented right-back, has expressed his desire to lead the Atlas Lions to a World Cup victory.
The 2022 World Cup semifinalist, who will co-host the 2023 edition alongside Spain and Portugal, revealed in an interview with Footballer Feet that his aspirations with Morocco are personal and distinct.
“I think it would be great to win everything with Paris. With Morocco, the feeling is different. The World Cup isn’t held every year, so I’d rather win something with Morocco, like the World Cup.”
The 26-year-old also highlighted his ambitions before retirement: “Win something with Morocco, like the Africa Cup of Nations or the World Cup.”
In other news, Morocco is set to host this year’s AFCON, which will kick off in December.
The Atlas Lions are also well-placed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, to be held in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
At the club level, Hakimi is on the brink of securing another French Ligue 1 title with Paris Saint-Germain.
He will also look to shine when PSG faces Aston Villa in the Champions League quarterfinals on Wednesday.
