Ghana international Joseph Paintsil is setting his sights on the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
The 26-year-old winger, who currently plays for LA Galaxy, was notably left out of Ghana’s final squad for the 2022 World Cup despite playing a crucial role in the qualification process.
His exclusion came as a shock to many, given his impressive performance at club level, where he led in both goals and assists compared to his international teammates.
In an interview with Joy Sports, Paintsil reflected on his omission from the squad and expressed his determination to secure a spot for the 2026 World Cup, provided Ghana qualifies.
”It was strange and I was unhappy, but I always have to accept the decision of the Head Coach.
“There are millions of players who dream of playing for Ghana at the World Cup, but only 23 will make the cut.
“I was disappointed but my job is to keep focused and work hard. There are more World Cups ahead, and my hope is to be part of the squad for the next one if we are able to qualify,” he said.
Currently, Ghana sits in second place in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with 9 points.
The team will resume their qualification campaign in March with upcoming matches against Chad and Madagascar in the fifth and sixth matchdays.
