Al Ahly head coach Jose Riveiro has expressed his disappointment after his side shared spoils against Inter Miami in their FIFA Club World Cup opener.
The two sides played to a goalless draw at then Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday.
The Egyptians had their opportunities on the night, including new signing Trezeguet missing a penalty.
After the game, Riveiro noted there were enough chances for his side to bury the game in the first half.
“It’s a football game, a game of mistakes. We had a decent amount of chances in the first half to put the game in a different space and we put them in a hurry,” Riveiro told FIFA.com.
“In the second half we were defending a little lower than what we wanted and then we had some problems in transition with controlling our first pass.
“It’s like we were playing in Cairo and that was a surprise for me in my first official match with Al Ahly. To be here in the States and have it like you were playing at home is something that can probably only happen in this.”
The Spanish tactician also revealed he was left surprised after his first match with the Egyptian giants.
“I had a feeling of surprise. This is my first official match with Al Ahly, and of course, playing here is different from playing in Egypt,” he added.
“I am very happy to be here representing the Club of the Century in Africa, and we hope to have a better opportunity in the match against Palmeiras.”
Al Ahly will hope to secure their first win of the tournament when they face Brazilian side Palmeiras Sports Society on Thursday, June 19 at the MetLife Stadium with kick off scheduled at 16:00 GMT.
