Leroy Sane has expressed deep sympathy for Jamal Musiala following the Bayern Munich midfielder’s serious injury in their Club World Cup semifinal defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
The Galatasaray winger, who previously played alongside Musiala at Bayern, described the moment as “incredibly bitter” and said he was shocked when he saw his former teammate go down.
Both players have African roots—Sane through his Senegalese father and Musiala via his Nigerian father—making their bond even more personal within the German national setup.
Musiala, 22, is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in Europe and a key figure for both Bayern and Germany.
The midfielder was stretchered off after a heavy collision with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, later diagnosed with a fractured fibula.
Bayern confirmed he will be out for at least four months following surgery on Monday, ruling him out for the remainder of 2025 and possibly into early 2026.
Sane, speaking to Sky Sports, said: “I really hope he’s fit again soon. Bayern and the national team need him and his moments of genius. It’s so incredibly bitter, I was stunned at first.”
The former Manchester City man revealed he had been in direct contact with Musiala since the incident.
“I feel so sorry for him. It’s so frustrating,” he added. “He was just on his way back to being 100 percent fit, and then this happened.”
PSG’s Achraf Hakimi and Donnarumma were visibly shaken in the aftermath of the tackle, underscoring the severity of the injury.
Bayern hope Musiala will be ready to return for the second half of the 2025–26 season as they aim to defend their Bundesliga crown.
