“I am my harshest critic” – English-Ghanaian Jarell Quansah reflects on challenging season

Jarell Quansah

Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah has acknowledged the difficulties of the 2024/25 season but remains focused on learning and improving from each game.

The 21-year-old, who has Ghanaian heritage, has made six starts this season, primarily in cup competitions.

Despite a tough debut in the season opener, injuries to Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate have provided him with opportunities, including his first Champions League start alongside Virgil van Dijk in Liverpool’s victory over Lille.

“Every game is a learning process for myself. I am not getting too down if I make a mistake or two,” Quansah said.

“I just know I need to learn. It is going to be a long career for myself, hopefully. Temperament is the most important thing for me or any young centre-back. Learn off the players around me.”

Quansah admitted that adapting to top-level football is challenging. “I am not going to sit here and say it’s easy. It is always tough. But it is all about how you prepare, putting yourself in the best mind frame and physical condition.”

Reflecting on his journey, he added, “I am my harshest critic. Whether I play good or bad, I am always looking at my game. I am not the finished article yet.”
