Hugo Ekitike drives Liverpool to big West Ham win
Hugo Ekitike delivered a sparkling performance as Liverpool thrashed West Ham United 5–2 at Anfield in Premier League Round 28.
The French forward finished with one goal and two assists in another statement display in his debut season.
The Reds raced ahead after just five minutes through Hugo Ekitike, before Virgil van Dijk powered in a second from a set-piece on 24 minutes. Alexis Mac Allister curled in a third shortly before half-time to cap a dominant opening 45 minutes for Liverpool.
West Ham briefly threatened a comeback when Tomas Soucek pulled one back early in the second half, only for Cody Gakpo to restore the three-goal cushion with Liverpool’s fourth on 70 minutes. Valentín Castellanos struck again for the visitors five minutes later, but any hopes of a late fightback were ended when Axel Disasi diverted the ball into his own net on 83 minutes to make it 5–2.
Across all competitions this season, the 23-year-old Ekitike now has 22 goals in 37 appearances, underlining his rapid adaptation to English football and growing importance in Liverpool’s attack.
