Hossam El-Haj, former star of the Tunisian club, Africain, expressed his disappointment with the underwhelming performance of the Carthage Eagles in the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held in Ivory Coast, concluding on February 11.
In statements made on the “Al-Primo” program with the host Mohamed Farouk on “TeN” channel, El-Haj commented, “Tunisian football is experiencing a continuous decline and going through a catastrophic period.
Even the most pessimistic in Tunisia did not anticipate the early exit from the group stage and the failure to achieve any victory, in addition to the surprising loss to the Namibian national team, despite its modest level.”
He added, “The coaching staff led by Jalal Kaderi bears the responsibility for the early exit of the Tunisian national team and their appearance with this disastrous performance.
There were question marks about Kaderi’s choices for the Carthage Eagles’ squad in the tournament.”
