Egyptian coach Hossam El-Badri and player Mahmoud Abdelmoneim are expected to arrive in Cairo soon following the suspension of football in Libya due to ongoing unrest.
Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, personally contacted El-Badri head coach of Ahly Tripoli, and the Egyptian members of the technical staff, including players like Abdelmoneim, to ensure their well-being and arrange their safe return.
In a statement, ministry spokesperson Mohamed El Shazly said, “The minister spoke with Hossam El-Badri, the Egyptian technical staff, and Mahmoud Abdelmoneim to check on them and organize their return home.”
He added that efforts are being coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant agencies to streamline the process amid current conditions in Libya.
El-Badri, along with Hadi Khebba, Ahmed Ayoub, and Hadi El-Saeed, remains in Misrata. Meanwhile, Ahmed Esmat, Kahrouba, and Ahmed Shafik are still in Tripoli but are expected to join the others.
Those in Misrata are due to land in Cairo on Wednesday at 11:00 pm, with the rest to follow shortly.
