Hope FC appoint former Mamelodi Sundowns player Clayton Daniels as head coach
Hope FC have appointed former Mamelodi Sundowns player Clayton Daniels as their new head coach, with the Motsepe Foundation Championship newcomers making the change ahead of their opening fixture against AmaTuks on Saturday.
Daniels, 42, was part of the Hope FC side that secured promotion to the second tier after winning the Western Cape ABC Motsepe League and then going on to claim victory in the ABC Motsepe playoffs.
The former defender was one of the club’s high-profile players during that successful campaign and will now move into the dugout as Hope FC begin life in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
The appointment comes after the club decided to end Dylan Deane’s spell as head coach. Deane was in charge last season, but Hope FC, which is run by Keagan Buchanan as chief executive officer, opted to part company with the experienced coach before the start of the new campaign.
Hope FC confirmed Daniels’ appointment before Saturday’s meeting with AmaTuks, giving the recently promoted club a new coach as they prepare for their first match of the season.
“We are proud to welcome Clayton Daniels as the new Head Coach of Hope FC,” the club stated.
“As a club, we believe in giving young South African coaches the opportunity to lead, grow and make their mark. We believe Coach Daniels has the qualities, experience and ability to steer the ship as we begin this next chapter.
“We wish him nothing but success on this journey. The entire club is behind him and ready to support him every step of the way.
“One of our own, Coach Daniels.”
Daniels’ appointment continues Hope FC’s transition following their promotion from the Western Cape ABC Motsepe League. The club’s success in the league and the subsequent ABC Motsepe playoffs earned them a place in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, commonly referred to as the MFC.
Their first challenge will come against AmaTuks on Saturday, when Daniels will take charge of the side for the first time as head coach. The fixture represents Hope FC’s season opener and marks the beginning of their campaign at the higher level.
The club have also strengthened their squad during an active transfer window. Among their new arrivals are Miguel Timm, Samkelo Zwane and Lyle Lakay, with Hope FC adding further players as they prepare for the demands of the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Daniels therefore takes over a team that has already made significant progress on the field and has been reinforced before its first league match. Hope FC will now look to combine that recruitment with the momentum of promotion as they start their new campaign under one of their own.
