Angers midfielder Himad Abdelli has been handed a one-match suspension by the French Professional Football League (LFP) Disciplinary Committee, ruling him out of the club’s upcoming Ligue 1 clash against Rennes on March 30.
The Algerian international received the ban after accumulating three yellow cards within a 10-match period across all official competitions.
As a result, he will be unavailable for selection as Angers continue their fight to secure safety in the French top flight.
Abdelli’s absence presents a significant challenge for Angers, who are struggling to maintain their status in Ligue 1.
The 25-year-old playmaker has been a key figure for the club, and his suspension comes at a crucial stage of the season as they prepare to face Rennes, a side currently pushing for European qualification.
Adding to the setback, Abdelli was also forced to withdraw from Algeria’s squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Botswana and Mozambique.
The midfielder had initially been called up for the fixtures scheduled for March 21 and 25 but was sidelined due to a thigh injury sustained during Angers’ recent match against AS Monaco.
The loss of Abdelli, both at club and international level, is a blow for Angers and Algeria alike.
While Angers will have to navigate their match against Rennes without one of their most influential players, Algeria will also be without his services as they continue their qualification campaign for the next World Cup.
Angers will now look to find a way to compensate for his absence as they prepare for the crucial encounter against Rennes.
With relegation looming, every point matters, and the club will need to step up in Abdelli’s absence to strengthen their survival bid in Ligue 1.
