Himad Abdelli has joined Algeria’s national team camp ahead of friendly fixtures against Rwanda and Sweden, expressing confidence in both the squad’s ambitions and his own future trajectory.
The SCO Angers midfielder arrived in Algeria to take part in preparations for the two international matches scheduled for 5 and 10 June.
While classified as friendlies, Abdelli made it clear that the team is treating the fixtures with full seriousness under new head coach Vladimir Petkovic.
“As the coach said, we don’t see these matches as just friendlies, but we will do everything in our power to win against Rwanda and Sweden,” he told Ennahar TV shortly after his arrival.
With the Fennecs set to take on Sweden in what promises to be a test of technical quality, Abdelli believes Algeria are equipped to match their European opponents.
“Sweden is a European team that plays more football, but we also have the squad that allows us to play football. So it will be a good match,” he added.
Looking further ahead, Abdelli shared his aspirations for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, which will be hosted in Morocco.
The 24-year-old, who came through the ranks at Le Havre, underlined the team’s determination to deliver a strong performance on the continental stage.

“Everyone knows that we want to go as far as possible in the Africa Cup of Nations and present the best possible image for Algeria,” he said.
While his focus remains on national duty, questions about his club future continue to swirl.
The Angers playmaker confirmed that a departure from the French club is likely during the summer transfer window, though he stopped short of providing specific details.
“We’ll see later about the transfer window. It’s true that we need to come to an agreement with the president, but we’ll see what happens,” he commented, leaving the door open for a move after several seasons of consistent performances in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2.
For now, Abdelli appears fully committed to cementing his role within the national setup, eager to contribute to a new era under Petkovic while keeping one eye on the next chapter of his club career.
