Zambia have reignited their 2024 WAFCON campaign with a dramatic 3-2 win over Senegal in their second Group A match on Wednesday night in Mohammedia.
After drawing with hosts Morocco in their opener, the Copper Queens knew they needed a response. and they delivered in style.
Senegal opened the scoring early, with Nguenar Ndiaye finishing coolly in the 5th minute after a neat assist from Méta Kandé. But Zambia fired back quickly through captain Barbra Banda, who slotted home in the 12th minute after combining with Racheal Kundananji. The opening half was a tight affair, with key saves and injuries shaping the momentum, ending 1-1.
Zambia came out strong after the break. Kundananji struck in the 51st minute to give them the lead, and Banda added a third from a corner in the 73rd. Senegal fought back, earning a penalty converted by Ndiaye in the 80th minute after goalkeeper Musole committed a foul.
The Lionesses piled on pressure in the closing minutes, but Musole’s saves kept them at bay. Zambia now sit on four points and remain in the race for a quarter-final spot.
