Hervé Révelli Takes on New Role with Foundation for Action Against Exclusion
Hervé Révelli, the legendary former Saint-Étienne striker and one of the greatest players in the club’s history, is set to embark on a new challenge starting Monday. The 68-year-old, renowned for his incredible goal-scoring ability during the 1970s, has been recruited by the Foundation for Action Against Exclusion (Face) to help reintegrate unemployed individuals in his hometown.
While football was once the center of his life, Révelli is now focusing on making a tangible difference off the field. “There’s more to my life than football,” he stated, reflecting on his new commitment. “This coaching job will be a full-time activity, but I can afford it since I’m retired and don’t like hunting, fishing, or mushroom picking. I enjoy helping people find work again.”
Révelli’s desire to assist those in need is not a new one. After the 1998 World Cup, he worked with the Loire General Council for four years, successfully helping people reintegrate into the workforce. However, the constant contact with poverty and long-term unemployment did take its toll. Despite this, he remains passionate about providing opportunities for those in need.
The former striker’s coaching journey took him abroad, with stints in Qatar, Mauritius, Benin, Tunisia, and Algeria. He also coached in France, managing teams like Toulouse Fontaines, Châteauroux, Beaurepaire, and Feurs.
Now, with his new role, Révelli’s focus will be on ensuring that the jobs he helps secure for the unemployed are not just short-term but sustainable. “My main concern will be to make these permanent jobs truly permanent,” he said. “And every time I succeed, I will have the feeling of having scored a goal or won a match.”
With an illustrious career that included seven French Championship titles and four French Cups with Saint-Étienne, Hervé Révelli remains the club’s all-time top scorer, with an impressive 175 league goals. As he transitions into this new phase of his life, Révelli’s dedication to helping others demonstrates that his legacy extends far beyond the football pitch.
