Hérita Ilunga criticizes Marseille management over Mbemba treatment

Ilunga

Hérita Ilunga, President of the Congolese Footballers’ Union, has publicly condemned Olympique de Marseille’s handling of Chancel Mbemba’s situation. Mbemba, a Congolese defender, has been sidelined by the club’s management as he searches for a new team. Ilunga expressed his disapproval on social media, highlighting what he perceives as disrespectful treatment by the club’s hierarchy.

Ilunga took to his X account to voice his concerns, stating, “The disrespectful behavior of Marseille’s management towards Mbemba is unacceptable.”

The former AS Saint-Etienne player emphasized that such actions tarnish the club’s storied history and its values.

He believes that OM’s approach to Mbemba reflects a deep-seated lack of respect for a player who has consistently demonstrated commitment and professionalism.

Ilunga stressed that it is entirely possible for Marseille to manage its interests while treating Mbemba with the respect he deserves.

“It is possible to defend the interests of OM while respecting Chancel, this player who defended body and soul the colors of this club with irreproachable and exemplary behavior,” he asserted.

Ilunga’s statement underscores his full support for his compatriot during this challenging period.

As of now, Chancel Mbemba remains without a new club. Despite receiving several offers, he has turned them down, including a proposal from Rennes, which he did not find appealing.

With one year left on his contract, Marseille is eager to offload him to generate funds. However, the impasse continues, leaving Mbemba in a state of uncertainty.

The financial aspect of this situation cannot be ignored. With Mbemba having only one year left on his contract, Marseille is keen to sell him now rather than lose him for free next year.

This urgency to make a sale adds pressure on both the player and the club, further complicating the situation.

Ilunga’s criticism of Marseille’s management extends beyond Mbemba’s individual case. It raises broader questions about player treatment and respect within football clubs.

The manner in which a club handles its players, especially those who have shown dedication and professionalism, reflects its core values and reputation.

Ilunga’s comments serve as a reminder that the interests of the club and the respectful treatment of players are not mutually exclusive.

As Chancel Mbemba navigates this uncertain phase, the football community watches closely.

His next move will not only impact his career but also serve as a reflection of how player-club relationships are managed in professional football.

Meanwhile, Ilunga’s public support highlights the importance of solidarity among players, especially in times of adversity.

In conclusion, Hérita Ilunga’s strong stance against Marseille’s treatment of Chancel Mbemba underscores a call for greater respect and fair treatment of players.

The unfolding situation will undoubtedly influence discussions on player management and the ethical responsibilities of football clubs.
