Hemed Suleiman targets consistency and discipline for Tanzania’s AFCON 2025 campaign
Tanzania coach Hemed Suleiman has outlined his ambitions for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, stressing that consistency and discipline will guide his team’s journey in Morocco.
The Taifa Stars aim to reach the knockout stage for the first time in their history, and their coach believes a balanced approach will be key to achieving that target.
In an interview with CAFOnline, Suleiman discussed his tactical vision and the improvements he expects from his squad.
He emphasised the importance of a solid defence and sharper finishing in attack. “Defensive solidity is essential; clean sheets will be a criterion for success.
On the offensive side, we must convert our chances better. We have worked a lot on transitions and set pieces,” he explained.
Set pieces have become a major focus in Tanzania’s preparations. Suleiman believes they can be decisive in tight matches.
“In a close tournament, set pieces often decide the outcome. We aim to combine surprise and structure; it’s an asset we want to exploit,” he said confidently.
The Taifa Stars face a challenging group featuring Nigeria, Tunisia, and Uganda. Suleiman recognises the quality of their opponents but remains optimistic.
“Nigeria is full of attacking talent and punishes the slightest inattention.
Tunisia is tactically disciplined and hard to unbalance. Uganda, driven by fight and ball control, will make the regional duel intense,” he noted.
Suleiman also revealed that his team will adapt tactically to each opponent while maintaining their playing identity.
“We will adjust our plan for every match but never lose our identity,” he affirmed.
Tanzania’s goal is clear — reach the last 16. “We’re aiming for at least four points, a total often synonymous with qualification,” Suleiman stated.
“Consistency and discipline will make the difference.”
