‘He was no longer human’ – French-Cameroonian star Kylian Mbappé’s mother reveals toll of PSG fame
Kylian Mbappé’s mother, Fayza Lamari, has given a rare and emotional insight into her son’s turbulent final years at Paris Saint-Germain, revealing that the French-Cameroonian forward “was no longer human” under the weight of constant scrutiny and fame.
Mbappé, whose father hails from Cameroon and mother from Algeria, rose to global stardom during his seven-year spell at PSG, where he became the club’s all-time top scorer with 255 goals.
He lifted six Ligue 1 titles, three French Cups and two League Cups before joining Real Madrid in the summer of 2024.
Despite his glittering achievements in France, Lamari admits her son’s experience in Paris took a toll on him and their family.
Speaking at Demain le Sport, Lamari described how fame and public exposure transformed her son’s life beyond recognition.
“Kylian in Paris was like a magnifying glass on his flaws; he was no longer human. I had some very low moments,” she said.
“He can’t even walk down the street anymore. It makes me sad.”
Lamari, who has long managed aspects of Mbappé’s career, acknowledged that the family was unprepared for the level of celebrity that came with his success.
“We are not prepared to become public figures,” she added.
The 26-year-old forward, now starring for Real Madrid in La Liga, appears to have rediscovered balance both on and off the pitch since his high-profile move to Spain.
His performances have already won over the Santiago Bernabéu faithful as he seeks to guide Madrid to another league and European title.
