Former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart has praised Thomas Partey for his exceptional performance against his old club.
Arsenal faced the defending champions at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, with Partey playing a crucial role in midfield.
His impressive display, ability to disrupt Manchester City’s play, and skilful pass distribution stood out throughout the match.
After Martin Ødegaard gave Arsenal a 1-0 lead before halftime, City equalized through Erling Haaland.
However, Partey quickly restored the Gunners’ advantage with a fine finish. The momentum stayed with Arsenal, and in the 62nd minute, Myles Lewis-Skelly extended the lead, receiving a pass from Declan Rice.
In the 76th minute, Kai Havertz added another goal, converting a perfect pass from Gabriel Martinelli to make it 4-1. The final blow came in stoppage time when Ethan Nwaneri scored from a Declan Rice cross, sealing a dominant 5-1 victory.
Hart, who spent over a decade at Manchester City, was full of praise for Partey after the match. On Premier League Production, he said, “Thomas Partey was excellent against Manchester City. He didn’t stop running in midfield. He and Martin Ødegaard controlled the game, especially in midfield, but Partey was outstanding.”
With his goal against City, Partey now has three goals and two assists in the Premier League this season.
Looking ahead, Partey will aim to help Arsenal secure a spot in the Carabao Cup final when they face Newcastle United in the second leg of the semifinals at St. James’ Park on Wednesday, after losing 2-0 in the first leg at home.
