Moroccan international Brahim Diaz, has praised new Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso and expressed his excitement about the club’s first participation in the Club World Cup.
The Spanish giants will come up against Saudi side Al Hilal in their opener.
Speaking about his first World Cup appearance, Diaz was quoted by the Spanish newspaper Marca as saying, “We are entering the tournament with great enthusiasm and high ambition. This is another title that will be added to the club’s coffers if things go our way.”
He further praised the appointment of Alonso as the new head coach for the side.
“He still has the same quality (as he did as a player). He enters the pitch and proves he’s among the best. He could still have played for years when he decided to retire.”
He revealed some behind-the-scenes details of his early days with Xabi Alonso: “He’s someone close to everyone and talks to the players. What we discuss remains private, but I’m very happy he’s here. I hope he leads the team to many more titles. He’s coaching the best team in the world.”
Regarding the contract renewal, he said: “I always wanted to stay here and achieve success with Real Madrid, and I believe I am achieving that. Real Madrid is unparalleled.”
Kick off for their game is scheduled at 19:00 GMT at the Hard Rock Stadium.
